Parents, Staff, Students, Community: Fort Thomas Unified School District wants to acknowledge the new mask mandate that was just approved during the San Carlos Apache Tribe Council Meeting today, August 3, 2021. Fort Thomas Unified School District is in a unique position as we serve students that reside on and off tribal lands. We are working to ensure all students are able to access free and appropriate education that is safe and secure during this time. Due to the new mask mandate on the San Carlos Tribe lands, all students and employees will comply with the mask mandate while on tribal lands. This includes travel to and from school. However, due state law, once a student or employee is off tribal lands, masks will be recommended, but cannot be mandatory. Please keep in mind, anyone student or employee that chooses to wear a mask no matter where they are, is welcome and encouraged to do so.

2021_05_03 Indian Education Committee & Johnson O'Malley Meeting Agenda
Dear Staff, Parents, and Community, Yesterday Governor Ducey removed the statewide order that directed schools to require masks be worn. It is now up to each local school district to decide whether masks will be required for the final weeks of the school year. This decision came as a surprise to districts who were expecting to complete the school year under the mask mandate. Safeguarding the health of our students and staff is our priority. Ft Thomas Unified School District has worked closely with county and tribal health officials through the pandemic. We will be conferring with these officials over the next few days before reaching a decision. For the immediate future masks will still be a requirement for students and staff. Sincerely, Shane Hawkins
